In 2020 we made the decision to forgo Pinot Noir production due to wildfires, leaving us with some holes in our portfolio. This “opportunity” gave us some freedom to get creative. We harnessed our flâneuring spirit and looked outside of our region to explore other beautiful examples of Pinot Noir in hopes that our curiosity would uncover something significant. Indeed it did. In fact, it brought us to explore a new terroir. We've released two Pinot Noirs from the 2020 vintage that were made possible by our friend and second generation Winemaker, Fritz Becker of the iconic Weingut Friedrich Becker in the Pfalz region of Germany. 2020 Spazieren Pinot Noir offers a delightful blend of old-world charm and contemporary flair, boasting aromas of rustic cherry and pomegranate. Tart cherry and cranberry flavors intertwine with notes of savory earth, anise, and dried sage, all brought to life by impressive acidity that contribute to its invigorating freshness. With fine-grained age-worthy structure, the wine culminates in a remarkably long finish.
Production Notes
Flâneur sent Becker verticals of La Belle Promenade Pinot Noir and Flânerie Pinot Noir to help Fritz familiarize himself with our winemaking style and estate terroir. In return, Becker sent Flâneur numerous barrel composite samples as options for assembling the final blends, which would ultimately become the Flânieren and Spazieren Pinot Noirs. Flâneur’s winemaking team then gathered for an extensive blending session to craft the wines. Once the final blends were determined, they were communicated
to Becker to assemble back in Germany. Becker completed the blending and, on April 20th, 2022 bottled just over 236 cases of Flânieren Pinot Noir and 270 cases of Spazieren Pinot Noir.
