2023 Grüner Veltliner

In Stock
Driven by a relentless curiosity, we planted Grüner Veltliner to explore and express the unique potential of this rare grape in our region. Perched atop the Chehalem Mountains AVA at La Belle Promenade Vineyard, this wine is a tribute to the flâneur’s spirit—ever in pursuit of inspiration, connection, and discovery. Marty, our owner, chose Grüner Veltliner to diversify our white wine portfolio, inspired by his father’s Austrian roots and the striking soil similarities between La Belle Promenade and Raptor Ridge, where we sourced our cuttings.

Tasting Notes
The 2023 Grüner Veltliner opens with aromas of white peach, honeydew melon, hay, and petrichor, layered with earthy notes of moss, lichen, and a touch of white pepper. On the palate, it’s savory with a balanced salinity, complemented by white flowers, lime zest, lemon, and a smooth olive oil texture. Flavors of dried apricot, pepper, and salted melon add a briny depth, leading to a finish of fresh lime zest. Weighty yet clean, with medium acidity, this Grüner pairs perfectly with Dungeness crab, salted cantaloupe with prosciutto, veggie risotto, or seafood.
Vineyard Notes
La Belle Promenade Vineyard, our treasured estate site in the Chehalem Mountains AVA, spans 40 acres of organically dry-farmed vines planted in 2014. Situated between 700 and 850 feet in elevation, its northeastern and southwestern exposures bring balance and unique character to our wines. The vineyard’s volcanic soils vary between a fractured basalt layer in the southwest and deep Saum soils in the southeast, adding complexity to each harvest. Planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Grüner Veltliner, Gamay Noir, and Aligoté, La Belle Promenade reflects the rich diversity of its terroir, yielding wines with vibrant floral notes, bright acidity, and a hint of the orchard fruits that once flourished here.
